The Long Neck Tribe

Chiangrai is cultural; its northern location being closely connected to hill tribes and neighbouring countries of Myanmar and Laos. So, Yin Yin took us around for a cultural exposure and a look into what the day has to offer.

Yin Yin with her English flair is obliging and ever willing to see to our needs and demands with little complaints. Her co-worker in the driver though is different. A young man, he is gutsy and a risk taker. The drive the day before had some of us glued to our seats for life.He is a competent driver but nevertheless too bold for our liking. Thank God we reached our destinations in one piece.

. So, after a good night's rest, we were all ready to conquer the day. The girls love to take photos; non-stop.
Can you guess who's the leader of the pack? Not me this time.

See, in this little van the driver took us around for hundreds of kilometers through winding valleys and hills. The members were sporting especially Lee Lan and Jeanne for taking the brunt of sitting at the back. Special thanks to them for suffering silent.Lee Lan even said that the training was good for the daughter.
You see, they are not even seen for they were stuck right behind.
Thumbs up for the good spirit.
The journey and trip is superbly pleasant as the company is first class.
Everyone is ever ready to accommodate.

The Long Neck Karen people are a rare group now. We were told they are conservative and keep to themselves. They however depend on tourists to buy local products from them and so we did buy some souvenirs in exchange for poses with them !

Primitive in some ways, they nevertheless enjoy small pleasures in life. We saw them playing marbles and hop scotch; just like the days when I was young and when electronic games never existed. How we change with times. But it was a refreshing sight and even the air was definitely cleaner.

That's Chui Yean with her doting husband. That's my doting hubby too.

We were excited to see the long neck people.
Pretty maids all in a row.
Promise you, they do not look their age.
So, it's photo time.

Hahaha... I took a picture of a Dior model; will that sweet thing also one day be sought after? She has a long neck like what models crave for ! A real beauty she is.

We also turned tribal for the day. Good, clean fun.

We were attracted to their weaving and many of us purchased scarves and the like for friends and keeps.
It was a pleasant morning and the cool weather make the walking a pleasure.
But it was best meeting the long neck tribe.
In fact, this was one of the highlights of the trip.

The Karens.
