The 11th Malaysian Choral Eisetddffod
6-8 June 2013
SMK Seafield
Founded by Suzanna Saw and Mak Chi Hoe in 2003, the aspiring music lovers spurred on for years to make this annual festival a reality. Their enthusiasm and zeal set the stage perfect for school choirs and some other public choirs to meet and conspire for the best to happen in choral singing.
The last few days saw some 14 schools all over Malaysia having music workshops and sharings in Seafield who has etched a name for herself under the tutelage of Suzanna and her team.
This year the celebration was nothing short of its reputation as groups sang and learned together.
This man is the 'Father of Youth' in choirs. Thomas Caplin of Sweden lives and works in Norway and read music in Denmark, so he's all over Scandinavia. The festival this year was indeed privileged to have him as the instructor and the man of the show. It was obvious his involvement in music is far, wide and beyond. I could see that his love and devotion are best felt in his detailed engagement with the school choirs present. He went down personally to touch and inspire them and led them to produce choruses that spoke of strength.
His personal conviction that every member is important in a choir and his connection with people through music has made him approachable and loving. He is warm and treats music with a different taste and gait. You would enjoy being trained under him. His presence has indeed blessed all those present.
See him lead about 300 participants in songs.
Before the grand performance, a few school choirs performed.
Catholic High School came out with a Chinese tune; I was bemused by the presence of this Indian member singing with them.
SMK Damansara Jaya choir is joyful and talented.
If I am not mistaken the members of this choir is from SMJK Nan Hwa , Sitiawan, Perak.
They are young but eager to learn.
Listen to this catchy tune from the host school. You like it? They received much applause.
Look at the Father of Youth holding the attention of 300 singers at a go.
You would have gone down to join them too.
It is indeed a feat to take the reign and bring enjoyment to parents and guests present.
Awesome.
Hear them sing.
What a wonderful evening; to be entertained by music lovers and this celebration of voices, artistry and giftings were all made possible by the organizers, teachers and instructors in the name of music and aspiration.
May the annual festival continue to serve the choirs and bring greater inspiration and development to youths.
Congratulations.
